About Us

Cherry Ridge Veterinary Clinic is nestled in the hills of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Cherry Ridge Township. Although we are off the beaten path, we offer professional, top quality care with compassion.

Our clinic was founded in October of 1963 by John P. Burlein, V.M.D. Dr. Burlein began the practice in the basement of his home.

By 1972 the practice had grown, making it impossible for one veterinarian to handle. A second veterinarian was added.  In 1976 co-owner, Richard C. Trayes, V.M.D., joined the practice.  In 2000, David M. Rutledge, V.M.D., became co-owner of our clinic.

At present, we are a sixteen room facility, fully equipped to handle most cases, and completely computerized.  Our staff consists of our veterinarians and numerous veterinary technicians and clerical employees.  We are a team of diverse individuals working to serve you and your animal companion to the best of our ability.  Our philosophy of veterinary medicine is to provide the best service to you by consulting with each other to reach an accurate diagnosis and to strive to provide the best care in treating your pets.

The ability to aid nature's healing processes is one of life's most precious gifts.  It provides merciful comfort to all creatures great and small. We at Cherry Ridge Veterinary Clinic are dedicated to you and your animal companion.  Thank you for indicating your belief in our abilities by choosing us.

Preventative Care and Inoculations

It is our intention to maintain the health and well-being of your pet so that you can spend many happy years together.

Because of the speed with which our pets age, we recommend annual comprehensive physical examinations.  During the visit, the doctor will obtain a history of your pet's health, behavior and habits for the past year; examine your pet for any subtle indications of physical problems; perform a microscopic exam on a fecal sample to check for intestinal parasites (worms); and may recommend special testing if any abnormalities are noted.  A vaccination and heartworm prevention program individualized to your pet will also be discussed.

Along with proper nutrition and your TLC, annual exams can add years to their life and life to their years.
