Shadow memorial

Shadow Gilbert

R.I.P. 01/25/2019

We rescued Shadow from a kill shelter in Ohio. No small feat considering we still lived in New Jersey. But having just lost our dog to diabetes, Gary drove nine hours to Ohio and nine hours back to pick up Shadow. He didn't even know he was coming home with our other rescue, I made those arrangement over the phone. Shadow was a comedian. He would patrol the house, he was the barker, he would take the sea shells out of my flower garden and carry them around until I asked him about what he had and he would spit them out. I'd put them back and another day we would do the same thing again. He would run through our fenced in yard barking at the birds in the sky who were crossing his property. He was a kisser and a snuggler. I had pumpkins in our yard before Halloween and I told both Shadow and Stormy, our other rescue, to leave them alone. My sister watched them as they conspired to dig a hole together, carry the pumpkin by the stem and place it in the hole while I was at work. We were all together when a drunken driver almost killed us. Shadow ran across six lanes of the interstate and hid in the woods. My sister and husband found him the next day. It was a work of God. Shadow left us in January. My heart still misses him.

In memory of "Rowdy" DuBois 1/15/2003 - 7/24/2018

This summer, we had to say "So long" to Rowdy, our Toy Fox Terrier. As Mike says, he was our "big guard dog." Rowdy thought he was a really big dog, not even afraid of a bear. He was a good dog. He never destroyed things, he wasn't "yappy" like some dogs are, and oh, how he could jump and bounce! He loved to just sit on Mike's lap and let him whisper in his ear, and he loved long walks with me. He would prance along just like the show dog that he was. When he was a year old, he won the Best of Breed award in a dog show in Syracuse, NY and his blue ribbon was almost as big as he was! The back of our couch will never look the same again; other than on someone's lap, that was his favorite spot to rest.

In memory of "Junior" Cliff

Black and White

Like the piano keys you pranced on

When you wanted to

Go outside

Black and White

Like coffee and cream

That dribbled

Down your chin.

Black and White

Like the iconic cookie, crusty outside and

Sweet inside, that inspired

Your nickname.

Black and White

And the murky half-light in between

When the birds woke and you

Called my name.

Black and White

Like the posters we made

And walked the streets

Clapping and calling “JU-nior” until

You came home.

Black and White

Like Snuggles (poor thing)

Who lasted only three frail seasons,

You lived long.

You were the original:

Your antics, your yowl, your nips. You

Nibbler of lampshades, you

Clearer of counters, you

Loping across lawns, you

Lying long and languid in our laps

A colorful character in

Black and White.

“Junior” was adopted from Dessin Animal Shelter in December 1998. He lived 18 ¾ amazing years. We will miss him.

"Sophie" 8/5/2001 - 7/25/2017

Sophie came to us at age 3 1/2 when someone didn't want her anymore. Still so tiny from lack of proper food, attention, and love, the vets at Cherry Ridge were so glad we now had her. She was my instant best friend and therapy dog! We had 12 1/2 wonderful years with our little loyal companion. When the time came, she told me she needed to go. I told her it was okay. She died in her sleep next to all of us that loved her so - Mama(Patty), Papa(Pete), and her sister dachshund, Scout.

1. Ha! I took the big bed.

2. I love my mama!

3. I am happy and I love Scout too!

4. My mama loves me so

"Meiah" Papocchia 4/10/2003 - 6/25/2016
You came into my life one day.
So beautiful and smart,
My dear and sweet companion
I loved you from the start.
Although we knew the time would come
When we would have to part.
You'll never be forgotten,
You left your paw prints on my heart.

Meiah was a sweet little Shih Tzu who was always there for me. She stayed here longer than she should have; for me. We had a special bond that will be truly missed, and remembered always.
-Patricia P.

May I go now?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain filled days
and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first,
I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and living light.
I want to go
I really do.
It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid,
because I see your tears
I'll not be far,
I promise that, and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you
wherever you may go
Thank you so for loving me.
You know I love you too,
that's why it's hard to say goodbye
and end this life with you.
So hold me now just one more time
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you'll let me go today
